Keeping a 1500 Spitty running cool can be a bit of a trick. Recently two (2) 1500s took a trip to northern Victoria in 30 degree heat and both ran magnificently.
- Neither uses glycol.
- Only one uses an oil cooler.
- One uses BP oil and the other uses Valvoline.
- Both use full width radiators (22").
- One uses a viscous fan and the other an electric fan.
- Both have overdrive gearboxes.
- Both have full radiator and engine ducting.
- Both use 160°F thermostats.
- One has coated extractors and the other has standard headers.
- Both use a very low restriction exhaust system, so they both have great amounts of power.
- One uses Optimax, the other uses BP Ultimate.
- Both use flashlube.
This proves that there are a number of combinations available to achieve a cool 1500.
