The list of options for Spittys over the years has always been large. However, the list of performance options supplied both indirectly and directly through the dealer network was equally as large. In the early 60’s, the official supplier was SAH, then British Leyland Abingdon in the late 60’s. In America, things were a little different, as Leyland was supporting 1500 Spitfires, through what was known as British Leyland Competitions Department.
The following is a list of the most important ‘go fast bits’ obtainable in America.
- Camber compensator for the earlier models
- Close ratio gears for the gearbox
- Koni Shockers all round
- Mag Wheels
- Various Oil Coolers (up to 16 row)
- Various Camshafts
- Various valve springs
- Alloy push rods
- Velocity stacks
- Extractors
- Various diff ratios and casings, ranging from 4.87 to 3.27
- LSD’s (not on all ratios)
- Stronger rear axles
- Various front springs
- Various brake pads
- GT6 brakes (believe it or not)
- Etc. etc. etc… all up to about 40 items
