There are three (3) different types of tails shafts on Spittys:
- The sliding joint which most people would call a spline , but it has rollers in the splines.
- The strap type which is self explanatory.
- The CV joint type which has a CV joint at one end like early TR7s.
The spline type it the heaviest and the CV joint type is the lightest. The strap type is probably the best as far as balance is concerned. There were two (2) different lengths for each model to suit standard and overdrive gearboxes except for the MKIV Spitty which had a batch of “J” type overdrive units as well as ”D” type overdrive units. When fitting uni’s in Spitty tail shafts remember not to fit then tight unlike back axles which must be tight.
